Welding is a method of joining two pieces of metal. It sounds simple. Yet, when expertly executed, welding is a skill that takes the basic and functional to the level of art. Although the basics of welding can be learned quickly, it takes great skill and a deft touch to perfect the technique.
It’s also a matter of knowing the proper method of welding for the type of metal. Depending on how you want to classify them, there are as few as three or as many as thirty!
Fortunately, you don’t need to learn all the acronyms or the multiple names for the same process. You don’t need to know which method of welding your project demands because Chomas Metalworks knows. We’ll match the best method to suit your project.
The types of welding Chomas Metalworks currently provides include:
Stick welding, also known as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). This is one of the oldest but most versatile methods for joining metals. It works well for a number of metals and alloys, and it’s great for working in tight spaces as well as being portable.
Torch welding, primarily using an oxyacetylene torch. This method is commonly used for repair work.
MIG, or Metal Inert Gas welding. MIG is among the most common arc welding methods. Dating back to the 1940s, the process is also referred to as gas metal arc welding (GMAW). This method was developed to weld aluminum for the aircraft industry, but it also works well for stainless steel.
TIG, or Tungsten Inert Gas welding. Also known as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), this method is perfect for the most precise welding requirements. TIG welding will be available in the future because Chomas Metalworks is always expanding to meet your needs.
Safety and quality are always a concern. For our safety and yours, we always weld properly to code. Contact Chomas Metalworks to discuss your next project.
